実機組み込みクリアランス＆静音冷却テスト
段ボールを開梱し、まず本体を持ち上げた瞬間に感じたのは「軽さ」だった。約7,000円という実勢価格を考慮すれば当然だが、スチールシャーシの板厚は実測でおよそ0.6mmから0.7mm程度と標準的。過度な剛性を期待するとやや頼りなく感じるかもしれないが、組み込み時に歪んでしまうほどヤワではない。フロントとサイドを覆う透明強化ガラスは十分な厚みがあり、エッジの研磨処理も丁寧に施されているため、チープな印象は回避されている。保護フィルムを剥がした際の視界のクリアさは上々で、内部のファンやグラフィックボードが美しく映えるパノラマビュー構造をしっかり形にしている。
内部空間のレイアウトは最近のトレンドをしっかり押さえている。ボトム吸気とトップ排気を組み合わせたエアフロー設計が可能で、今回は240mmサイズの簡易水冷クーラーと、トリプルファン仕様の長尺グラフィックボードを実際にマウントしてみた。CPUクーラーのクリアランスは余裕があり、裏配線スペースも約25mmの深さが確保されているため、電源ユニットの余ったケーブルを無理なく逃がすことができる。グロメットの配置やタイラップ用のフックも要所に設けられており、配線作業でストレスを感じる場面は少なかった。ただし、拡張スロットのカバーが一度切り離すと戻せない使い捨てタイプなのは、この価格帯のコストカットの現れとして割り切る必要がある。
購入前に確認しておきたい留意点
実際にパーツを組み込んでシステムを稼働させたところで、いくつかの留意点が見えてきた。まず、ファンを高回転で回した際に、トップパネルのメッシュ部分とシャーシの固定部からわずかな共振音が発生することがある。板金全体の剛性がそこまで高くないため、防振ゴムワッシャーを挟むなどのちょっとした制振対策を行うことで、静音性は劇的に改善される。また、付属しているネジ類の精度がややバラついており、特にマザーボードをスタンドオフにねじ込む際に引っかかりを感じることがあった。手持ちの精度が良い予備ネジに置き換えて作業を進めるのが無難だ。
フロントI/Oケーブルの取り回しについては、フラットケーブルが採用されているため裏配線スペースでの収まりは良いが、オーディオケーブルの長さがギリギリだった。ボトムを経由してルーティングする場合は、配線のルートをあらかじめシミュレーションしておかないとコネクタに届かない可能性がある。滑り止めゴムの付いたインシュレーターはしっかり機能しており、机上に置いた際の微小な振動を吸収してくれている。
