段ボールを開梱し、緩衝材を取り除いた本体を取り出す。マットな質感の黒い外装は、指紋が目立ちにくいシボ加工が施されており、実売約8,980円という価格を考慮すると安っぽさは感じられない。寸法は幅約21.1cm、奥行き約27.4cm、高さ約27.7cmと、一般的なトースターよりも一回り小さく、限られたスペースのキッチンカウンターにもすんなり収まるサイズ感だ。電源コードの長さは約1mで、アース付きの3ピンではなく一般的な2ピン仕様のため、変換プラグなしでそのまま壁のコンセントに挿すことができる。
庫内のバスケットを引き出すと、カチッとした確かな手応えがある。容量は2Lとなっており、一人分の惣菜の温め直しや、鶏の唐揚げを10個ほど並べて調理するのに適した広さだ。素材にはアルミニウム合金を採用し、内側はフッ素樹脂コーティングで仕上げられている。実際に冷凍のフライドポテトと手羽元を調理してみたが、設定温度とタイマーをダイヤルで合わせて放置するだけで、途中でひっくり返さなくとも均一に熱が入った。調理中の稼働音は換気扇の弱程度で、テレビの音を遮るほどではない。

購入前に確認しておきたい留意点
実際に使い込んでいく中で、いくつか気になる点も見つかった。まず、製品特有の匂いについて。初回使用の数回は、加熱時に内部のヒーター付近から工業製品特有のプラスチック臭が立ち上った。人体に直ちに影響はないものの、食材に匂いが移らないよう、初回の使用前には食材を入れずに最高温度で15分ほど空焼きを行う工程が必須となる。この空焼きを怠ると、調理したパンや野菜に微かに異臭が残る可能性があるため注意が必要だ。
次に、底面の滑り止め性能と本体の安定性について。本体重量は約3kgと比較的軽量であるため、バスケットを引き出す際に片手で本体を支えていないと、本体ごと手前に引っ張られてしまうことがある。設置場所の素材によっては滑りやすいため、ゴムマットなどを敷くか、両手でしっかりと本体を押さえながらバスケットを脱着する習慣をつけたほうが安全である。また、背面の排気口からはかなりの熱風が出るため、壁から15cm以上離して設置することが求められる。
